Q: I have in my living room Westhollow Laminate Beveled Impressions 4 pad (Suwanee Oak). My wife dragged the coffee table on the floor and it has a long white SCRATCH mark on it(Its driving me crazy looking at it). The legs under that coffee table are wood and I tried fingernail polish and a regular cleaner I bought and nothing has worked. Can a color coordinating pencil Help? I read on one of your emails that scratches blend in the floor by time, as long as I maintain and clean the floor. How can I remove or blend in that SCRATCH to help me from replacing that area. Do I need to buy a scratch repair kits or professional help? Is there any product off the website I can purchase? Im a Happy Customer, but very sad I have to look at that Mark or Scratch. I’m leaving my wife LOL.

A: For your scratch, there are a few things you can do and I have a few other tips for you to make sure this does not happen again in the future and that way you have no worries of leaving your wife.
Based on your description, I’m guessing the scratch is deep enough to where it has actually scratched away the image portion of the laminate. Since laminate is just a picture of wood, deep scratches have a rather nasty effect on the floor (although rare with how tough laminate is built). Using a color coordinating pencil or marker (like a sharpie) to fill the white area cause by the scratch. This will help to blend it in a bit better than the white mark. Now you can also look into a color fill kit similar to those made by Wilsonart. This would actually be your best solution as the colorfil forms a layer similar to your finish which will protect against moisture. Your best bet here would be to find a floor from Wilsonart which best matches the color of the Suwanee Oak, then order the matching colorfil for that floor as this will give you the best color coordination.
As far as preventing scratches from occurring with furniture would be to use furniture cups. Here is a quick URL to a fairly good furniture cup for using with tables and similar furniture over a wood floor of any kind.
There are several various designs for these, but I tend to prefer the square ones as they can be used with almost anything in the house. This provides a nice cushion between the furniture and the floor and is great for expanding the life span of your floor against scratches or marks.
