Q: Hi, I found your comparison on the various laminate floor options VERY insightful. Do you have any thoughts or data on the Quickstep Handscraped Eligna Country Collection?

A: The handscraped line from Quick Step is brand new (and rather eye catching). Eligna was Quick Step’s name change for what was originally the Uniclick Long Plank collection, which Steve rated in Brand Wars 2 very highly. These high marks still hold true as Eligna is one of the better lines of laminate on the market. The handscraped should hold up to similar marks. Generally speaking a hand scraped product will hide wear a bit better because of the naturally “worn” appearance. Keep in mind here that this is still laminate, so should you get a gouge which goes beyond the finish layers (which is a tough feat with quality laminate) you will still see a mark because you have gouged through the image layer.
