Problems with Gypcrete

Q: We are installing stretch in carpet in a multi level condo bldg. The contractor leveled the floor with gypcrete( the manufacturer escapes me). The floor varies from 0.0 to almost 3″. We haves used several different concrete nails and roofing nails w/ minimal success. We have gone to gluing the floor with Chemrex adhesive and nailing. Still having holding issues.
Any suggestions short of ram set or nailing?
Thanks

A: Typically what you will want to do when working with gypcrete is use a spray on contact adhesive with a spray rig to adhere a wide architectural strip. Generally any power nailer will blow gypcrete to bits and should be avoided as it will cause more headache then help. Now if you don’t happen to have a spray rig, you can look into a contact adhesive in an aerosol can or use a construction grade mastic adhesive, and set the architectural strip in the mastic to cure over night. This should give you a firm enough hold to roll out your carpet and finish the job.
