Exotics are going up in price now and in the fall as I have predicted for about the last year. The Tropical Timber legislation has finally passed and will become effective in September 2008. Despite our existing practice of sourcing from legitimately managed forests the prices are likely to increase as the supply of the illegal stuff (the stuff that they are stealing from rainforests) goes down. That is a totally good thing for obvious reasons, but as the supply is lowered prices will go up.

If you are looking for a spectacular wide planked floor take a peek at the Angelim Bourbon. Very cool stuff. Unique graining and deep rich colorations. As usual there are a number of variations in color tone expected in exotic flooring. This manufacturer also is very careful to make sure they used sustainable forestry practices when they harvest which is critical for today’s consumer!
